Another year...

I have my 'official' interview this coming Friday. I have my 'official' presentation the following Friday. And I am hoping that is that.

Assuming everything goes as planned, I'll be in Laramie for several more years. The department is buying me equipment, so I'm not that worried. I'm on the schedule and plan on teaching here next year. And at least for next year, I'll be living here as well.

The last part is the only part I've struggled with through this process. I was pretty sure a move to Colorado was in store, but after much prayer and a number of attempts, I decided to stay put. Part of my reasoning was that I would spend as much, if not more, time on the road if I lived in Fort Collins. By remaining here, I am hoping to commute no more than twice a week (once for church and once for a Bible study/fellowship group). But I also have come to hate moving and would prefer not rushing into a situation I'm unsure of.

I hope I am making the right decision and pray my summer goes quicker than last.

Adventures in finding a roommate...

I've been considering a move to Colorado for some time now. I need to make some changes in my life and, for better or worse, a move to the Land of 14ers seems to make sense.

Since January when I was told I had been offered a multi-year contract here at Wyoming, I have been checking out the housing scene in Fort Collins. Today I made the hour drive down to meet a potential roommate. I thought it was a bit odd that he wasn't telling me where he lived, but instead wanted to meet me in Old Town. Shortly after meeting him, I realized he was interviewing me and learned he does so with all potential roommates.

One of his first questions (asked with a lot of enthusiasm):

"So...are you into guns?!"

Needless to say, the search for a roommate continues.

I'm not sure why I haven't been writing. I have actually had a number of things to discuss such as winter camping, a conference at DU, and, most recently, the end of my search for publisher. Yes, after a long 12 month journey, I have finally secured a publisher for my project: The Journal of Cultural Geography. Really couldn't be happier.

I'll be on the road this coming week. It's Spring Break and I'll be seeing family, friends, and some hockey.
