Saga of a Nomad

I am a recent graduate of landscape studies having explored the folklore of the Northwoods (Paul and Babe). I have been blessed with adventures that have taken me to the far corners of the world and look forward to continuing this journey.

Resting on the floor once again...

If you've ever had one of those days where it's everything you can do to hold a smile and hold it together until you are alone, you know how my evening went.

Several years ago I had a roommate who was contemplating a change in careers.  He had been in his current position for a number of years, but as time passed he increasingly struggled to find the good in what he did.  I remember talking about other career paths at length with him and telling him that I hoped he was able to walk away before it was too late.  That is, before the years of fond memories were erased simply because he had not left when it was time.

It should be noted that this friend had stayed with his position a number of years beyond what most people do.  He was good at what he did and he did eventually leave in a timely fashion and is able to reminisce about the good times.  If I were to resign tomorrow, I'm not sure I would have anything I would want to discuss about my work over the past five years.

Believe it or not, my job is not the inspiration for this post.  As open as I am in this arena, I can't bring myself to share tonight.  Maybe next time.

27 Days Later...

It's a rainy day here in Fort Collins.  Not so much the rain that one expects on the edge of the Rockies, but rather a light mist more akin to Seattle.  I love these days.  Not sure I would want to have them for six months as places in Cascadia often do, but from time to time a day or two like this really puts me in a good mood.

Last night it was good to get of the road and finally be "home".  I pulled in early enough to unpack and make my way over to a local pub to meet with a men's group that meets Tuesday evenings.  It's a time of fellowship and I found myself longing to see my friends again as the trip began to wind down.  Today holds nothing special.  I'll likely spend a good portion of the day catching up with friends and making plans for the rest of the week.  I'll also likely spend a good portion of the day revisiting many of the sites I traveled to over the past month.  A friend asked me earlier about making a map of the trip--I thought about it, but ultimately decided against it as it would simply take too much time (blame it on weariness from the trip).  Instead, I took some time to update my (lifetime) travel map which took a few simple clicks on my MacBook.

Again, it's good to be home.  But viewing this map has me already planning my next adventure.
