Saga of a Nomad

I am a recent graduate of landscape studies having explored the folklore of the Northwoods (Paul and Babe). I have been blessed with adventures that have taken me to the far corners of the world and look forward to continuing this journey.

2013: Year in Review

2013 was, at best, a mixed year for me.  Highlights would include a attending a handful of sporting events, partaking in a major road trip (which really was quite nice even if it didn't produce the desired results), surviving rural West Virginia, and submitting my letter of resignation.  Lowlights would include plodding through work for a job I know longer wish to retain (which ultimately led to the letter of resignation), enduring continued dating woes: stood-up (twice), asked out by girl only to have her cancel (twice), turned down (lost count), and suffering my first ever anxiety attack.

Hindsight is often 20/20 although it can take years for the proper perspective to materialize.  That is, of course, if it ever does.  As of now, I can honestly say that I deeply regret returning to Wyoming for one last year.  The knot in my stomach that forms with the thought of returning this January is formidable.  I pray God that my perspective changes and I can at least see some value in returning for a swan song of a semester.

On the brighter side, 2014 will likely bring a change in scenery if for no other reason than I will be employed elsewhere.  I would prefer to stay in the area, but full-time employment in my field is unlikely for the immediate future.  There may be an opportunity the following year (2015-2016), but there's no guarantee that position will be mine for the taking let alone materialize.  A question I've been asking myself is whether it's worth the gamble to stick around or not.  After all, I do have a church, network of friends, and community that I enjoy.

Even outside of the region there is little on the domestic front in terms of jobs.  A community college here or there and at least one four-year school (although the job description is a long shot).  Prospects overseas continue to be of interest.  But we'll have to wait and see.

A new calendar year is something to look forward to if for nothing else than it symbolically gives the perspective of a fresh start.  So here's looking to you, 2014!  May you bring answers to prayers and fulfillment of dreams as we once again view a calendar page anew!
