On the Eve of New Year's Eve-Eve...
I have come to the realization that I need to write more often. Once upon a time when a lumberjack and his blue ox preoccupied my thoughts, I readily shared my thoughts and experiences on a regular basis. For a variety of reasons I have largely been absent from this site since then and I believe this has been detrimental in my communication with others. I need the practice.
What drove this realization home was my experience earlier this year communicating with women online. I gave online dating two separate attempts and responses were rare, to say the least, with no dates materializing. I realize this is in part a societal issue I need to work through as I was more likely to have women in their late-40s or early-60s (yes, you read that correctly) contact me than someone in her 30s or early-40s respond to one of my lines of inquiry. Societal issues aside, I couldn't help thinking I may also be to be blame. My writing is likely not what it once was.
My posts have served a purpose in the past. This site has been used to explore thoughts and share experiences and, on occasion, to vent. But writing posts on a regular basis was also an exercise in just that: writing.
My holiday travels finally came to an end Saturday after spending two weeks on the road. Wichita, Dallas, St. Louis, Kansas City, Wichita (again), and Tulsa were all visited before heading north to spend Christmas with family in northern Minnesota. Along the way, Lindsay the Bold (Lindsay, we need to come up with a name!) and I finally met after 10 years of communicating emphasizing the friendship aspect that can develop from regularly sharing on this site. A couple of days later, I met up with a young lady for a first date that, if nothing else, reminded me of the potential benefits of practicing what I share in thought and word.
